Abstract

The Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG) is a disease that gradually damages the optic nerve due to increased Intraocular Pressure (IOP) and is the first cause of irreversible blindness and the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. Based on its anatomy and pathophysiology, where aqueous humor flows into cranial venous blood, the effectiveness of the cranial osteopathic technique over the petrobasilar suture will be verified to favor venous drainage of the skull and reduce IOP. The objective is to analyze the effects of the cranial osteopathic technique for petrobasilar suture on intraocular pressure in patients suffering from POAG. This is a double-blind, randomized and controlled clinical trial. The study population is made up of 60 patients from an ophthalmology office, with POAG and temporal bone mobility positive test. The application of the cranial osteopathic technique for the petrobasilar suture reduces IOP (p<0.05) in a statistically significant manner after 5 minutes of the technique application, comparing IOP after placebo is applied and before the technique is applied. Such result is maintained after 30 minutes (p<0.05).
