Stabilometric effects of cranio-sacral osteopathic technique on whiplash
Abstract
Whiplash is one of the most frequent pathologies after a subsequent collision due to a car accident that usually has a poor prognosis due to its consequences. Frequent signs and symptoms are usually cervical joint pain and limitation, instability, pain in the arms, low back pain and mental disorders, among others. We have carried out a study with 30 patients with Whiplash after a posterior collision and a stabilometric test with open and closed eyes was performed on them before and after performing the cranio-sacral osteopathic technique and then subjecting them to a second stabilometric test. We measured three parameters: the confidence ellipse surface (P1), the surface length -LFS- (P2) and the sway area (P3). With the corresponding means by means of the paired T-Studen, it gives us a significant decrease in all the parameters: p <0.0005. A p <0.025 in the second test with eyes open, a p <0.0005 with eyes closed. And a p <0.0005 in the third test. Regarding the correlation of the different parameters, we performed Pearson's correlation coefficient contrasts and only found an inverse relationship between age and test 2 with eyes open, which means that the older you are, the more energy expended to control your balance. There is a direct relationship between the P1 dispersion and P3 efficacy parameters for open and closed eyes; There is a direct relationship between the improvement with eyes open and eyes closed in the P2 energy parameters. There is also improvement between P2 eyes open with the dispersion parameter P1 with eyes closed and the efficacy parameter P3 with eyes closed. We have not found any study similar to ours with which to discuss our results. We conclude that the cranio-sacral osteopathic technique is effective to improve stability in patients with whiplash immediately, it also influences age in relation to the energy expended and there is improvement among all the parameters studied regarding instability.References
